Still, for those who may want to upgrade from more like a laptop or iMac, the Mac Studio could be perfect. Maybe wait for the next mac pro? Likley by end of year. Awful thing, going back to something like the dreadful 2013 trashcan - cables hanging off everywhere, driving all sorts of external units and power supplies everywhere.

And for those Pro Tools users with big PCIe investments, forget it. All that stuff fits neatly inside one box right now. JP Perry wrote:Unfortunately, in order to build a Mac Studio with equivalent functionality of my cMP, I'd need to also buy an external RAID, external UltraStudio SDI, and external SSD enclosure. Still, its getting there & by the time the next Mac Pro arrives I image this should be largely sorted out. In my experience, Apple still has a ways to go with its silicon compatibiltiy (beyond Rosetta emulation) and this is still causing some problems with a number of third party solutions.

Personally, shall stick with my 7,1 mac pro for the foreseeable future & works very nicely with Resolve & DAWs etc - especially given the various auths, driver specialisations for the latter.

Next mac pro likely 4 chips, a few PCIe slots (perhaps four, one used for Apple IO like the 2019 MP) user install RAM. But it is indeed an interesting proof of concept for chaining together Apple silicon in a new processor. Agreed, is not 'pro' user upgradable, does not provide PCIe slots. Who knows what that will look like, but I think it's fair to assume that it will at least offer a few PCIe slots for audio/networking/capture/playback and things like that. Apple will release a new Mac Pro based on Apple Silicon next. Roger Singh wrote:If this beats out the 3090 with Red/Arri/Venice footage, I'll definitely switch over to this new mac pro.
